I have had the pleasure of working with this developer, and he is on top of his game! What originated as an iOS app was brought to the Mac platform the "Right Way®". This developer has given careful thought to Kerberos integration, support for dealing with specific OUs and a proper Mac user interface. The Mac platform has been able to integrate well with AD since Panther. Up until now though, if a user needed his password reset, he would have to go to a Windows sysadmin or a delegated user running Windows MMC to get this done. Now, you spend $10 (cheaper than setting up a web site or Windows VM for this purpose), buy AD HelpDesk from the Mac App Store, and deploy it to a Mac user that needs the ability to reset AD login/passwords. Highly recommended for K-12, higher ed and enterprise Mac IT folks that want to be able to delegate mundane password resets for students/workers to a Mac user!!

I am so excited that this app is now on the Mac. I use it all the time on my iPad and iPhone and it works beautifully. The only thing I ever had to login to Parallels/Windows for on a dialy basis was AD management - now I dont even need to do that! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BRINGING THIS TO THE MAC!!!!

It would be nicer if it had add to group capabilities or match the features available on the iOS version. Good for quick password resets, lockouts, and enabling and disabling user accounts.

I needed a way to manage AD accounts on a MacBook at my job, and this tool helps in that endeavor. I agree that while this tool is good in and of itself, it really becomes a goto tool if it could allow the management of Group Membership and other object meta data such as phone numbers and such. My rating is not because this tool isnt rock solid or a quality piece of software, but just because of the lack of more extensive features. Still, its a solid start and I look forward to it becoming the standard tool for AD admins. Keep up the great work. You have an awesome product here!

This is an awesome app on iOS devices, but it will unfortunately crash right away on Mountain Lion (10.8.2 at least). I really hope this developer updates this app, rather than abandon it.

This app has been a life saver while on-the-go supporting our AD users. I did experience the crashing error, but it was quickly resolved by the Implbits team with a quick solution! (just look in preferences for the Defaults - Require Authentication when App Launches) Excellent turnaround on support response and inquiries. I truely believe Implbits will continue to develop this app to include the features from the mobile device.

I have been waiting for some time now for an update to the OS X version of the app that will allow all of the functions the iOS version currently provide. An update to the OS X app has not been developed for almost a year. C’mon guys, lets get cracking on those missing functions techs so eagerly desire to see on the OS X version of the app.

I own the iPad version of this software and love it. As an Active Directory administrator, when I am away from my desk (with Parallels installed) it is invaluable. I thought for sure the desk top version would be as full featured as the iPad version. In fact - it is so limited as to be worthless. I can only search for users (no computers, no groups, nothing other than users, or subsets of users: Users with Expired Passwords, or Users with Locked Accounts). The iPad version allows editing of AD objects including groups and computers, updating attributes, deleting objects, etc. The desktop version lets you find users and reset their password. Short summary - not worth the price. Buy the iPad version, and keep your iPad close.

I used to use logmein or some other RD App to unlock AD user accounts when away from the office (and not home), with this app it is so much easier, thank you!

I bought this app as an IT pro better than a year and a half ago. There has been one small update in that time that squashed a bug. No feature updates have happened at all. The fact of the matter is – this app is obviously aimed at IT Professionals and it is just severely lacking on the features that we need. I love it for just standard unlocking of accounts and changing passwords, but beyond that, I’m still having to maintain a Windows VM just so I can bounce into AD to check/change groups, search for machines, etc. So just know what you are getting into. You are paying $10 to be able to unlock users and reset passwords. I really hope that the developers re-evaluate and add some much-needed features. This tool could be a must buy for entire IT departments with a little refinement.

Does the job, barely

AD Helpdesk is a VERY simple application which does the very basics. I gave it three stars just because it works and is a Mac application for a Windows task. Whew! I would happily give it five stars except for a couple of minor flaws: 1. It shows you a few things about an account when you search, but not the most important details: username, email address, and date/count of failed logins (bad password). There should also be an option to display other Active Directory fields, such as “Department” and “Comments” (which we use a lot!) 2. In a large domain, “Find all locked” and “Find all expired” are pointless, since they only return “size limit was exceeded” errors. 3. Getting back an error clears the search you just performed, forcing you to search again.

I want to love this app, but the developers have abandoned it
